Ridgeons Occupational Therapists
Occupational Therapists (O.T.s) study, through activity analysis, the way we carry out everyday tasks. They are trained in ‘normal’ human development from birth to death, in the pathology of all major physical disabilities, cognitive impairments and mental ill-health conditions, and in how these various disabilities or impairments affect human function. Their aim is to assist a person obtain their full potential.
O.T.s work by finding out, through assessment, where a person is having difficulty with an activity and then problem-solving, with the person concerned, to find a realistic solution to that difficulty. The solution may be anything from learning new ways to plan and sequence a task, through to identifying a piece of equipment to assist with an activity.
Whilst O.T.s work in a variety of settings, performing slightly different roles depending on the environment, it is generally those who work in the community, for Social Services, who specialise in equipment and home adaptations. These O.T.s have a broad knowledge of the products available and are expert in determining what piece of equipment, or what kind of adaptation, will suit who. Key to determining whether or not a particular piece of equipment is the right answer, is the trial of that item by the potential user.
Our in-house Occupational Therapists are available for appointments to carry out assessments, to help problem-solve and find solutions to practical difficulties and to facilitate the trial of different products in our fully accessible Pampisford showroom.
